I'm Not Average: Jamie

Condition:
Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)

Age:
56

Location:
Tampa, FL

Jamie was diagnosed in 2001 with chronic myelogenous leukemia, and thought she would not be able to watch her son grow up. Today, she is living a happy, normal life. #ImNotAverage

In 2001, Jamie went to the doctor with hay fever symptoms. She left with a diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), a cancer that starts inside the bone marrow and, at the time, had few effective cures.

“Life takes on a whole new meaning,” she says today, nearly 14 years after her diagnosis and subsequent treatment with new, breakthrough medicines.

Jamie will always have CML, but because of innovations in cancer medicine, she’s happy, healthy and able to manage the disease – all while helping her son with his college courses and planning a long-delayed trip to Paris with her husband.
