In 2009, I was diagnosed with breast cancer after being a yoga teaching vegetarian for years. I knew that going through treatment would be physically difficult.
Looking back as a healthy 7 year survivor, I know that I was able to count on the truly important things in my life to get me through. Those include my family, taking care of myself, being patient, slowing down and tapping in to my inner knowledge and wisdom to live a fulfilling life cancer free.
Hope came to me through friends and strangers on social media. Online, I found strength in the stories of love and fun with family and friends. It helped me remember that this too shall pass. Throughout my treatment, love showed up in the strangest ways. I didn't want to leave my house, yet whenever I did, I'd find exactly what I needed.
Now, I'm sharing life's lessons through a survivorship series both online and in person. Surviving cancer taught me to how to receive as well as share hope. Becoming an advocate after that experience was a no-brainer.
